LINCOLN -- According to Supreme Court Justice John F. Wright, the Judicial Nominating Commission for Supreme Court Justice in the Third Judicial District will hold a public hearing in the County Boardroom of the Dodge County Courthouse in Fremont, Nebraska, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012. At the hearing, the Commission will receive information on the qualifications of candidates to fill the vacancy in the office of Supreme Court Justice due to the resignation of Justice John M. Gerrard (effective February 5, 2012, at 6:00 p.m.) to accept his appointment as a judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Nebraska. The Third Judicial District consists of Antelope, Boone, Boyd, Burt, Cedar, Cuming, Dakota, Dixon, Dodge, Holt, Knox, Madison, Pierce, Platte, Stanton, Thurston, Washington, Wayne, and Wheeler Counties, in addition to portions of Douglas and Sarpy Counties.
The public is welcome to attend the hearing and present information concerning candidates for the judicial opening. Individuals interested in applying for the position must do so on an approved form available through the Chairperson of the Commission or the Office of the State Court Administrator, P.O. Box 98910, Lincoln, NE 68509. The application form may be printed from the Nebraska Judicial Branch Web site at www.supremecourt.ne.gov/forms/supreme-courtjudicial-vacancy.shtml. Completed applications must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012, by the Chairperson, Justice John F. Wright, at the above-stated address or delivered to the office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court, Room 2413, State Capitol.
