Probation’s juvenile programs include juvenile intake, pre-disposition investigation and supervision.
Juvenile Intake

Juvenile Intake is defined by Statute 43-250 concerning juveniles held in temporary custody by a law enforcement officer. Probation officers are the decision making authority as it applies to need for pre-adjudication placement or supervision and the need for detention of a juvenile. This includes secure or non-secure detention is indicated in statute.  Juvenile Intake is in every Judicial Jurisdiction and is a 24-7 responsibility of probation.  Juvenile intake is designed to promote the most appropriate services which are the least intrusive and least restrictive to the juvenile and family, balancing what is in the best interest of the juvenile and safety of the community.

Pre-Disposition Investigation
A risk assessment is completed at the pre-disposition investigation phase and will help probation officers determine the specific risk and need factors of the juvenile. These responsive assessments are specific to the type of juvenile and will help probation identify specific issues and behaviors. All of this information along with a social investigation of the juvenile and family is then used to formulate recommendations to the court in a formal report. 

Supervision
The assessments discussed above provide critical guidance for supervision and case management activities for juvenile placed on probation by the court. The EBP Principle of addressing the issues that brought the juvenile in front of the court coincides with assessments. The results of these assessments are used not only to help us understand needed services based on the risk of the juvenile, but also the specific needs that are present. Officers use these assessment tools and other information gathered to determine appropriate interventions or services for juveniles.
