This is an AmeriCorps grant-funded position. Will work to reduce recidivism through improving education and employment opportunities for offenders; perform a variety of duties ranging from assisting adult and juvenile probationers in obtaining employment and education, facilitating educational groups, linking offenders with jobs, educational/training opportunities, and the development of community contacts and resources for jobs and training; network with local colleges, school, and employers in order to explore employment and educational opportunities for offenders; and track offender achievement throughout and after program completion. AmeriCorps members will be required to work 40 hours per week for the length of their service year (September 1, 2008, through August 31, 2009).
Must have completed 63 hours of college course work from an accredited college in social sciences, criminal justice, or related fields, which can be substituted with related work experience. Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, criminal justice, or related fields preferred.
The ability to speak Spanish is desired but not required. Salary is $950.00 per month/$11,400.00 per year.
Individuals selected will not be considered state employees and will not receive benefits as do other state employees. The employees are enrolled AmeriCorps members and receive a $4,725.00 education award after completion of 1700 service hours, receive free individual insurance, free child care (if eligible), 12 paid holidays, and 12 personal leave days during the service year.
