Nebraska trial courts are divided into two basic levels: District Court and County Court and are located in the county seat of each county (shown above).
District courts hear felony criminal cases, divorce cases, and civil cases involving a substantial amounts of money, to name a few.
County courts handle misdemeanor cases; traffic and municipal ordinance violations; preliminary hearings in felony cases; civil cases involving lesser amounts of money; small claims cases; probate, guardianship, conservatorship, and adoption proceedings.
Juvenile matters are heard in county court unless they are in Douglas County (Omaha), Lancaster County (Lincoln) or Sarpy County (Papillion).
