Samantha Johnson Chosen to Lead County Court in Fremont

Samantha J. Johnson, Acting Clerk Magistrate, has been selected to serve as Dodge County Court Clerk Magistrate in Fremont. Johnson began work in her permanent position on August 1, 2023.

“Samantha has been acting clerk magistrate during the transition and has demonstrated her dedication to the court and loyalty to court staff through her hard work and exploration of changes needed to meet the needs of the new judges and growing caseload,” according to Trial Court Services Director Sheryl Connolly.  “We very much look forward to working with her."

County court clerk magistrates work under the general direction of the presiding county judge supervising, assigning, and directing the work of all staff within the county court.  The position carries a high level of responsibility for the people, paperwork, finances, and records of the court. Johnson is responsible to ensure the efficiency of the court’s administrative functions and for investigating and evaluating potential procedural changes.

Johnson works in the 6th Judicial District with fellow clerk magistrates Vicki Kuhlmann of Tekamah and Blair, Marcie Goeden of Pender, Sara Gunderson of Ponca, Kerri Wiese of Dakota City, and Diane Sudbeck of Hartington. Judges Francis W. Barron III, Thomas J. Klein, and Edward H. Matney preside over the courts and direct the magistrates in the 6th District. The District includes Burt, Cedar, Dakota, Dixon, Dodge, Thurston, and Washington Counties.
