Nebraska Chief Justice to Give Annual State of the Judiciary Address

Chief Justice Mike Heavican will give his annual State of the Judiciary address to state senators at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2021, in the Legislative Chamber.

Nebraska Educational Television will air the speech on NET2 as part of its regular legislative coverage, which can be viewed online: www.netnebraska.org/publicmedia/capitol.html (link will appear as Unicameral: Legislative Session).

The Chief Justice will give the State of the Judiciary address at the invitation of the Speaker of the Legislature, Senator Mike Hilgers. Since 2008 this address has been the judiciary’s opportunity to highlight Judicial Branch priorities for the upcoming year and provide relevant information directly to lawmakers. Heavican will give an overview of the activities of the judicial branch of government, including projects involving the state’s trial court judges and non-judicial employees in courthouses and probation offices across the state.

The State of the Judiciary video, written remarks, and related handout materials will be available through the Nebraska Judicial Branch Website in the publications archive following the address.
