I was an educator for 43 years. I retired in the spring of 2023.  I have taught in Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas.  I taught different classes from K-12 grade.  Physical Education, All Sciences, Engineering, and Computer Science. Throughout my career I coached football(7-12), Wrestling (preK-12), track(7-8), and also summer baseball.  I was a head coach and an assistant in both football and wrestling. I am currently the Head Girls Wrestling Coach at Northwest High School in Grand Island. I was also involved in negotiations for over 30 years.  I was a Head Negotiator throughout many of those years.

I am new to the Mediation process but have a lot of experience in dealing with students, parents, peers, and administration throughout my teaching career. 

I am an attorney mediator with my primary legal practice emphasis in mediation, estate planning and probate since 2020. My mediation experience includes probate disputes, small claims and other civil disputes, commercial contract disputes, custody and parenting plans, divorce and other matters related to family and juvenile issues.

Kathryn has been a practicing attorney since 2007, with family law, divorce and custody being her primary area of focus. Kathryn is a graduate of the Pepperdine University School of Law, and received her Certificate in Dispute Resolution from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution in California. With a degree in Social Work and spending the first part of my career in child welfare, I became interested in mediation because I genuinely care about people and families. I received Basic and Family Mediation Trainings in early 2019, working throughout the spring and summer to complete my apprenticeship and become affiliated with Concord Mediation Center and The Resolution Center. I completed the Specialized Alternative Dispute Resolution and Elder Issues Mediation trainings in 2022 and continue to seek opportunities to further my knowledge. As a supervisory mediator, I coach students at Creighton and the University of Nebraska Law Schools.

I retired from federal service after 39 years of service with the US Department of Veterans Affairs in January of 2015. Within the Department of Veterans Affairs, I spent my last 25 years of service serving as a senior regional communications specialist specializing in public affairs, media relations, congressional affairs, customer service, patient advocacy, and mentoring. In 2003, I completed basic mediation training to assist employees and veterans resolve agency disputes. In 2013 and 2014, I furthered my training by completing basic and family mediation training offered by Nebraska Mediation Association. In October of 2014, I affiliated with The Mediation Center in Lincoln and successfully completed training and apprenticeship hours to meet ODR requirements for mediating alternative dispute resolutions, conflicts, parenting plans, and restorative justice conferences. Sharon Schmidt serves as the Executive Director for The Resolution Center. The Resolution Center, with its main office located in Beatrice, Nebraska, is one of the six Nebraska Supreme Court-approved mediation centers serving sixteen counties in southeast Nebraska. Sharon has experience in business administration, program oversight, grant writing and reporting, and legislative relations. She is a state-approved mediator and specializes in child welfare and restorative practice mediation processes and large group facilitation. 

Darlene is trained in Basic Mediation and Family Mediation. She graduated from Nebraska College of Law in the Spring of 2022. She was admitted to the Nebraska State Bar in September of 2022. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Ag and Applied Economics from UW Madison. She raised two children. She grew up on and later operated the family farm, and she owned and operated a small business and a livestock transportation business. 

I have been a mediator for a year and have co-mediated parenting plans in southeast Nebraska. I am currently in graduate school and will receive my masters in Social Work, I plan on obtaining a therapist license. The skills taught in graduate school and the training provided by the state of Nebraska has given me the confidence and tools  to help parents to mediate their needs and come to an agreed plan for co-parenting their children.

I have 20 years working in child welfare systems within three different states; South Dakota, Colorado and Wyoming. Within this 20 year career, I have been a facilitator of Family Group Conferencing, mediated in Denver, and have a specialty working with the Indian Child Welfare Act and domestic violence. I am currently running treatment for Batterer's Intervention Group and will be returning to school to obtain my second Master's degree. A graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, Larry Sternberg practiced law in Washington DC for several years before going into business. He spent more than 20 years in the luxury hotel business as a general manager and vice president of human resources. In those roles he resolved hundreds of disputes involving individuals, unions, suppliers and other organizations. More recently, Larry served as the president of Talent Plus Inc., an international human resources consulting firm-based in Lincoln Nebraska. In 2021, Larry decided to affiliate with The Mediation Center in Lincoln. Since that time he has mediated numerous Small Claims Court disputes, Parenting Plans, and Restorative Justice cases. Larry believes that now, more than ever, we need to learn how to resolve conflicts through dialogue rather than fighting.

Karen L . Vervaecke has successfully engaged in the practice of law for over 30 years. In addition to my current work as a mediator affiliated with the Concord Center in Omaha, I draw on practical experience with conflict resolution which I encountered in fifteen years of active ministry and in nine years of service as a chaplain to the Omaha City Police Department. Brenda began work in mediation in 2020. She has worked on various types of mediation including, parenting plan cases, organization mediation, and child welfare. Amanda completed the Nebraska basic mediation and Parenting Act mediation training in 2021 and her apprenticeship for Parenting Act mediations in May 2022. As a law student at the University of Wyoming, Amanda represented victims of domestic violence in divorce and custody matters. Amanda continued to focus on family law her first two years of practice when she had the opportunity to practice oil and gas law, which she has done the past 15 years.  Amanda's affinity for agriculture motivated her move to Nebraska, where she has renewed her passion for family law and seeks to assist families in reaching unique solutions through the mediation process.

Justin Williams currently works and resides in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He has been an approved mediator since August 2005. Since then, Justin has mediated numerous cases ranging from: farm credit, family estate disputes, neighbor neighbor, and numerous workplace conflict cases. In addition to his traditional mediation portfolio, Justin mediates parenting act cases in Western Nebraska.

Liz Wollmann is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Mediator based in Omaha, Nebraska. Liz received a Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Nebraska – Omaha in 2007. She gained clinical experience while working for over twenty years in the child welfare, behavioral health, and developmental disabilities service systems in Nebraska. Liz opened her private practice in 2022 and currently works with adults and couples as a Mental Health Therapist. Liz is a trained Discernment Counselor and also conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities as an Independent Provider with DHHS.
