COMMENTS INVITED: Proposed amendments to rules on "Interpreters in Court"

COMMENTS INVITED: Proposed amendments to rules on "Interpreters in Court"

Judges, Clerks of the District Court, Clerk Magistrates, and Probation Chiefs,

The Nebraska Supreme Court is considering proposed amendments to Neb. Ct. R. § 6-701 et seq. entitled “Interpreters in Court.” This includes proposed amendments to the Code of Professional Responsibility and the Continuing Education Compliance Form which were updated to harmonize with the proposed rule amendments and deleted the Language Access Committee Payment Policy from the Personnel and Miscellaneous Rules:  Non-Codified Supreme Court Rules and Best Practices Guidelines and Standards (the Language Access Committee as a standing committee of the Access to Justice Commission was eliminated; however, when the rules were amended in April 2021, this payment policy wasn’t removed).

The Notice of Comment Period, including the proposed rule amendments, can be found HERE.

The Nebraska Supreme Court invites comments on the proposed amendments.  If you would like the Supreme Court to consider your comments and recommended revisions, then please send written comments to the office of the Clerk of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, PO Box 98910, Lincoln, NE 68509-8910, or by email to Erika.Schafer@nejudicial.gov, with the rule number listed in the subject line, by no later than May 1, 2024.
