Late February was a typically busy time for the Language Access Program. Fifteen interpreters speaking 10 different languages helped provide access to justice for Deaf and Limited English Proficient individuals across 3 counties. 

An American Sign Language (ASL) team interpreted for a potential juror during jury selection, Telugu interpreters appeared remotely for an all-day bench trial, County Court had an Arabic need for criminal case, the Nepali interpreter had a Guardianship hearing in the morning and a Juvenile hearing in the afternoon, the Nuer interpreter’s services were needed remotely in Hall County District Court, a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) teamed with an ASL interpreter to facilitate communication for a Sudanese refugee, an afternoon mediation required a Nepali interpreter, the Somali interpreter assisted Dawson District Court remotely and then turned around and provided Mai Mai interpretation in-person in Juvenile, and in between appearing in-person in County, District, and Juvenile Courts throughout the day Spanish interpreters appeared remotely in Lancaster and Dawson District Courts.
