Judicial Resources Commission to Hold February 9 Hearing

The Judicial Resources Commission will hold a public hearing via video conference on Thursday, February 9, 2017, pursuant to Neb. Rev. Stat. § 24-1204 to determine whether, based on the judicial workload statistics, judicial vacancies exist in the following locations: 1.Office of district court of the 1st Judicial District, due to the retirement of Judge Daniel E. Bryan, Jr., effective December 31, 2016, and if so to make a recommendation to the Supreme Court as to the primary place of office of said vacancy. 2.Office of county court of the 4th Judicial District, due to the resignation of Judge Susan M. Bazis, effective January 1, 2017, and if so to make a recommendation to the Supreme Court as to the primary place of office of said vacancy. 3.Office of county court of the 3rd Judicial District, due to the resignation of Judge Thomas W. Fox, effective January 5, 2017, and if so to make a recommendation to the Supreme Court as to the primary place of office of said vacancy. 4.Office of county court of the 9th Judicial District, due to the retirement of Judge Philip M. Martin, Jr., effective February 1, 2017, and if so to make a recommendation to the Supreme Court as to the primary place of office of said vacancy. 5.Office of district court of the 2nd Judicial District, due to the appointment of Judge David K. Arterburn to the Nebraska Court of Appeals, effective January 17, 2017, and if so to make a recommendation to the Supreme Court as to the primary place of office of said vacancy. The hearing is scheduled for Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., central time. The hearing will be held via video conferencing from the State Capitol Building, Room 1510, Lincoln, Nebraska, and will include participation from the following sites: (1) Omaha Downtown Vocational Rehabilitation Office, 1313 Farnam Street, 3rd Floor, Omaha, Nebraska; (2) North Platte Vocational Rehabilitation Office, 200 S. Silber, Building 2, North Platte, Nebraska; and (3) Grand Island Vocational Rehabilitation Office, 203 E. Stolley Park Road, Suite B, Grand Island, Nebraska. Following the hearing, the Commission will make a recommendation to the Legislature of its determination. Supreme Court Justice Stephanie F. O'Neal, Papillion Darlene Starman, Lincoln Any member of the public is entitled to attend the Nebraska Judicial Resources Commission hearing in Room 1510 of the State Capitol, Lincoln, Nebraska, and present, either orally or in writing, any pertinent information concerning the existence of a judicial vacancy. Anyone who wishes to present written material at the hearing should furnish a copy of such material to the Chairperson at least one week prior to the hearing.
